This cool little boat, which I ran into at the Miami Boat Show, is designed to be ultra-easy to rig and ultra-fun to sail. On the water, the Weta looks like a water bug on steroids. The outer hulls appear to provide excellent stability, and the sailplan has plenty of horsepower. The lightweight carbon mast (two sections) is easily stepped by one person, and the retractable sprit allows for a large A-sail. On the trailer, the carbon beams that support the outer amas simply slide out of the main hull, and each ama rests easily next to the main hull on the trailer. The supports slide into housings on deck and are held in place with trampoline tension. Needless to say, the tramp increases area for crew and allows for up to two adults to get out on the windward ama, which just skims across the top of the water when the breeze is on. Looks like a blast—I can’t wait to get on one myself.
