We Gotta Regatta

There's something to be said for a woman who defied all odds and doctors, living for four years when they predicted her life expectancy to be no more than a few short weeks. That something took the form of the We Gotta Regatta, this year’s North American National Access Dinghy Championship dedicated to the memory of Dell Darby who passed away on January 11, 2006. Thirty-two sailors of all ages and abilities raised their sails in order to compete in the regatta held on Lake Avalon in Naples, Florida, from January 13th to the 15th. Joshua Seidner, who is currently winning his battle with Leukemia, took the trophy home after winning each of his races in the 2.3 single fleet. Skip Doyle, a competitor with polio, took control of the 303 Fleet with three first place finishes. Regattas like this one that include all sailors, even ones facing life-long challenges prove that there truly are endless possibilities under sail.
